Generally, copyright protection in Canada lasts for the life of the creator, plus an additional 50 years. For sound recordings, copyright protection lasts 70 years after the release of the sound recording. Copyright protection exists regardless of the citizenship of the creator and the location where a work is created.  Material does not need to be registered or display the copyright symbol © to be under copyright protection.
